Holter and Event monitoring________________________________
Holter monitors and event monitors are used to help diagnose heart rhythm abnormalities.
A Holter monitor is worn for a 24-hour period during which it continually records your heart rate and rhythm. It is attached to the body with adhesive electrodes. After the 24-hour period the Holter monitor needs to be returned for interrogation.
An event monitor is used to capture less frequent rhythm problems. It is attached to the body with adhesive electrodes and is activated by you when you experience symptoms. An event monitor will usually record your heart rhythm for the period immediately before and after you activate the device. It can be worn for a few weeks before it needs to be returned.
